Controllability of Granular Packings

Granular packings are systems of disordered particles. These materials are integral in both industrial and in natural processes, including the large-scale motion of Earth’s tectonic plates. The overall goal of this project is to analyze the force chain architecture of granular packings over time using the novel approach of applying network control theory from the field of network science. This project aims to fill gaps in current knowledge by understanding how physical attributes of compressed granular packings such as system size, density, and local crystallinity influence the evolution of force chain architecture and control energy over time.
