Developing the Five Steps of Algorithm Auditing for K-12 Artificial Intelligence Education
This research project looked to adapt the 5 steps of algorithm auditing for youth to collaboratively and systematically investigate the biases in AI tools. We ran a pilot workshop with 12 consenting youth and recorded data about their auditing process, then analyzed the data to draw conclusions regarding students' processes and techniques. The students used generative AI tools to create TikTok filters and audited one another's work. We analyzed the students' behaviors throughout the workshop and the artifacts they created to design auditing processes for K-12 youth. This poster highlights some of the students' interactions with and usage of the 5 steps of algorithm auditing.
