Impacts of Behavioral Incentives on App Engagement in the Context of a Mental Health App
In this study, we conducted a pilot two-arm randomized controlled trial to examine the effect of the digital mental health app, NeuroFlow, with behavioral economics and financial incentives and a version of the NeuroFlow app with behavioral economics incentives only, on app engagement and mental health and wellness. The purpose of this study is to understand how financial incentives encourage participation in and engagement with an online mental health platform. As a secondary focus, we measured differences in users’ anxious symptoms, depressive symptoms, well-being, and emotion regulation after engagement with the NeuroFlow app, and how these differences are mediated by the incentives used for app engagement.
