Intrinsic Alignment and Cosmic Shear

In this project, we derived the intrinsic alignment of a catalogue of dark matter halos via xi-xi (shear-shear) correlations from three different methods: the angular momentum vector of the halo, the major axis of the halo, and from measuring the correlations between simulated satellite galaxies.

We found that, especially at longer distances, the correlations between halos are largest when measured with regards to the angular momentum vector, suggesting that inertia is the factor most explanatory of the intrinsic alignment of dark matter halos.
