Students with interests in the U.S. constitution, U.S. history, public history, education, and/or museum studies are encouraged to apply for the Education Department Internship at the National Constitution Center.

Opportunities

The internship provides opportunities to develop skills in project management with various contributors, stakeholders, and timelines; deepen constitutional knowledge through current, nonpartisan scholarship; build understandings of teaching and learning theories and best practices within the context of 21st Century American educational systems; explore methods for outreach, logistical organization, and outcomes assessment associated with online and in-person educational initiatives; and gain exposure to strategies in nonprofit management and the operations of cultural and nontraditional, educational institutions.

Responsibilities

Interns working with the National Constitution Center will help with the planning and execution of our Summer Teacher Institutes. This year, we are running two weeklong programs and two three-day programs where we will engage teachers from across the country in a variety of constitutional topics. Interns will be a part of the planning process by researching tour stops, collecting primary and secondary sources, and cultivating a “digital library” for participants with supplemental resources to use with their students. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in scholar talks, tours, and classroom application sessions to observe firsthand how teachers incorporate the historical and constitutional materials into their lessons. Interns will also be asked to help with the virtual side of the Institutes– by developing best practices, helping teachers with any technological issues, and acting as a chat moderator when applicable.
