Sylvie Tuder

Sylvie Tuder

My name is Sylvie Tuder, and I am originally from New Jersey. I am a junior at the University of Pennsylvania in the sociology department, specializing in quantitative data analysis. I am prospectively minoring in Hispanic studies as well. I am dedicated to the academic research in sociology and demography, and aim to pursue a PhD in demography after graduating in 2023.

My academic interests are varied, but revolve around the demographic analysis of mortality and life expectancy as it relates to the modern opioid epidemic in America. I am particularly interested in the socioeconomic determinants of opioid mortality, including COVID-induced despair, the shift away from a manufacturing economy, and racial discrimination. I am also passionate about classical sociological theory and the history of Spain in the 20th century.
