Juliana Vollmer

I am a sophomore studying Psychology and Nutrition Science. I was accepted into the 2021 Penn Undergraduate Research Mentorship program and was granted the opportunity to work at the Grill Laboratory. Mentored by Dr. Harvey Grill, my primary study focused on the neural mechanisms of Semaglutide, a recently FDA-approved treatment for obesity. My interest in the neural mechanisms of food intake was sparked during a freshman seminar titled "Your Brain on Food" and taught by Dr. Amber Alhadeff. That seminar and my time at the Grill Laboratory have taught me much about how basic science research is conducted and communicated, as well as the brain-gut connection. This knowledge will aid me as I apply to graduate school and pursue a career in clinical and positive psychology.
