I am a biology major with a chemistry minor in the college. This past summer, I was part of an ongoing study at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for the Chronic Lung Disease Program. This study was called the CLD Virtual Update and was focused on Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). BPD is the most common chronic respiratory complication of prematurity. I administered a comprehensive questionnaire about health related quality of life, development and health status to parents and caregivers of children suffering from BPD. The Primary aim of the study was to evaluate the health related quality of life among children who were followed by the CLD team in the CHOP NICU. For my individual projected, funded by a grant from the Center for Undergraduate Research at Penn, I investigated the relationships between parental health related quality of life, the parent's general opinion/description of their child's health and the child's current medical status.
