ARCH Lab Implementation Science Projects

Implementation science is the study of methods to promote the usage of evidence-based practices (EBPs) into standard care. EBPs are practices that are backed by research findings. The ARCH (Accelerating Research-to-Practice in Community Health) lab uses implementation science to improve the health of those from underserved populations. This poster summarizes two out of the four projects that are led by the ARCH lab. The first project, the Philadelphia Alliance for Child Trauma Services, focuses on the implementation of trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), while also increasing the screenings and assessments of children in varying healthcare settings. The second project, the Firearm Safety Check, focuses on the implementation of the Safety Check intervention which has the objective of implementing firearm means restrictions in pediatric primary care to reudce death by suicide.

I had also never heard of Implementation Science! Your involvement was in multiple projects and in various ways - how did you organize the new information and your research protocols? Are you interested in psychology, medicine, or a related field (you also mentioned sociologists working on these teams, etc.) from what you learned about IS?

You mentioned that there were no definitive results from the FSC pilot program. I was wondering if you could talk about some background literature that prompted you/ the implementation science program to choose this as a focus. I was also hoping you could talk about the preliminary results and where you think they may lead you. Do you think projects like these could be applied in a global context? 

Great poster! You did such a great job explaining implementation science and the projects at ARCH Lab! I was wondering if there was a specific project you found particularly interesting? Is this research you would want to continue to explore in the future?

Great poster! My project was also in the field of implementation science, and I especially like that researchers in this field really want to know how interventions are being implemented within communities. What were some ways that your team had direct contact with the communities that your projects serve? 

First, I want to say that this is an extremely interesting topic because I had never heard of implementation science before this! I was wondering about how you determined who was a good client for your study after figuring out who was eligible from the clinicians in the Philadelphia Alliance for Child Trauma Services portion of the presentation. 

I had never heard of the term implementation science but I'm so glad to have been introduced to it through your presentation! I worked on several projects dealing with community health studies and I think that the implementation principle is an extremely important research practice in the field for the sake of ethical and mutually beneficial research that plays an active role in improving the health and safety of under-served and marginalized communities. Very insightful and illuminating
