Voices of Israel: Study of Hebrew Poetry

The focus of my research was related to a course Professor Gold intends to teach in the spring, entitled Voices of Israel. This course aims to introduce students to Hebrew literature from groups that were previously or currently marginalized and thus excluded from mainstream Hebrew literature.

This is a really interesting and valuable project. If you were going to suggest just one (or a few pieces) to a wider public, what would they be and why? I was also wondering if you found there were any common themes you found in these authors. Do they confront head on the notion that they as marginalized voices are writing in a language that is so commonly (albeit erroneously) connected to a specific ethnic, religious, and/or political identities?

Amazing poster, Davida! I think it is quite intriguing to explore the motif of marginalized voices and its correlation with language and expression in the form of poetry.  I find it particularly fascinating that you personally reached out to Israeli bookstores, and am wondering what kind of insight you gathered from them?
