Association of COVID-19 and Sudden Cardiac Arrest: COVID-19 and Cardiovascular Health Impact on Youth Athlete Return to Play

A sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating and loses electrical function. This project investigates whether there is a correlation between COVID-19 infection and sudden cardiac arrests, how this affects young athletes, and what the current guidelines are for when these athletes intend to return to play post recovery. Such an association makes COVID-19 a much greater risk, and underscores the importance of masking, social distancing, and vaccination, as well as measures including proper CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training and AED (automated external defibrillator) accessibility in order to increase survival from a sudden cardiac arrest. This poster details the effects of COVID-19 on the cardiovascular system, what determines outcomes from the illness, and recommendations for health practitioners concerning young athletes.

Great poster Chi, this makes a great argument for the continued support of the vaccine and SCA education.
